CUSCO – FLIGHT OF THE CONDORS
The Flight of the Condors is a one-day tour, first you’ll visit Quilla Rumiyoc located 50 kilometers from the city of Cusco, in the pampas of Anta, is an archaeological site in which ceremonies of worship to the moon were performed.
Its name in Quechua means, the place of the rock of the Moon. Its height reaches 3,650 meters above sea level.
This huge archaeological center is formed by terraces, water channels, terraces, cultivated areas and ushnu. It also contains a small cave inside which there are petroglyphs. In the center, a huge rock with a semicircular carving in the shape of a crescent dedicated to Quilla, the moon goddess.
This moon-shaped carving is carved in low relief, also said to represent the muzzle of a puma, whose base resembles a mouth. If viewed from a distance, this natural rock looks like the profile of a puma and the crescent carved represents the eye of this feline.
You´ll continue with the visit to the archaeological complex of Tarawasi, which is located in the district of Limatambo. About 2,675 meters above sea level, on the left bank of the river Limatambo.
Tarawasi would have been one of the many complexes commanded by the Inca Pachacutec during his reign. It is built on an Ushnu, a sort of pyramidal ceremonial altar. It is also said that it would have been built as a resting place or a religious ceremonial center.
Then you’ll proceed to the village of Chonta, where you will have lunch. After that, you will leave on a hike of approximately one hour to the surrounding mountains that lead to the viewpoint, from where you will appreciate the flight of the condors in their natural state, after which we will return to the village of Chonta to take the transport to return to Cusco.
